The Queensland Government has announced a fourth round of the popular $5,000 Business Basics Grant. This round has a $5 million funding pool, with $1.5 million allocated for regional businesses outside of South East Queensland.

Eligible small businesses will be able register their interest to apply the grant from 9am, 24 November, until close at 11.59pm on 5 December 2022.

Grants will be awarded through a two-stage process starting with businesses registering their interest to apply by completing an online form that collects basic business information. Then businesses will be selected by a ballot process to complete their applications.

What is an ‘Eligible Business’?

To be eligible for this grant, your business must:

• not have been approved for funding under Round 1, 2 or 3 of the Business Basics grants program
• have fewer than 20 employees (by head count) at the time of applying for the grant
• have an active Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST
• have headquarters in Queensland
• have an expected turnover of $300,000 or less in the last financial year (2021–22)
• not have owners/directors that are insolvent or an undischarged bankrupt.

What can the grant funds be used for?

Funds are to be used for a project to increase core skills and adopt best practice. Example projects include:

• website development and upgrades
• strategic marketing services
• training and coaching
• business planning / professional business advice
• continuity and succession planning.
