Gr8motive wins bid to deliver On Country support in Townsville

Jul 3, 2020 | News

The team at KLR Communications wishes to congratulate our client, Gr8motive, on its successful bid to deliver an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-led cultural support program aimed at improving the lives of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders who are at risk and require support to move out of the justice system.

The program will engage local elders who will mentor referred youth from the Townsville region in activities undertaken On Country, with a view to addressing their physical, spiritual, emotional and cultural wellbeing, destigmatising young people as offenders and repositioning them as proud cultural people.

It is always an honour to work with such socially supportive, human rights focussed organisations and connection with the land is something that is close to my own heart,” said Kathryn Garth, KLR Communications’ Managing Director.

“This tender win empowers this great indigenous-owned organisation to give back to their community and potentially change a young person’s entire life path. I am really looking forward to working with the team across the life of the program.

Gr8motive will work closely with the Department of Youth Justice, families and local community organisations to overcome trauma, abuse, alcohol and drug use and to reframe a young person’s image so they feel strong and connected and reengage with education and employment.

The initial contract period is for 1 year, with a 2 year extension option.
