Care Finder Program

Following a competitive tender process, KLR Communications’ client Advance Diversity Services has successfully secured funding to continue delivery of the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) Program on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs.

Advance Diversity Services has been delivering SETS Client Services and Community Capacity Building activities since 2015. Securing more than $2 million in further funding enables the ongoing provision of supports for humanitarian entrants and other eligible vulnerable migrants so they may improve social and economic participation, and community connectedness.

For an additional 3-year period, Advance Diversity Services will provide low and medium-intensity case management and group sessions in support of clients to obtain settlement-related advice, to receive referrals into mainstream services, and to gain assistance to navigate the Australian service system.

Advance Diversity Services will deliver the Program in 4 NSW Statistical Areas (Hurstville, Kogarah-Rockdale, Cronulla-Miranda-Caringbah, and Sutherland-Menai-Heathcote) via team of Multicultural Support Workers with fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, Nepalese, Thai, Bengali, Russian, Ukrainian and more.

    Care Finder Program

    KLR Communications congratulates our client Weldon Children’s Services on a number of recent and well-deserved tender successes allowing this impressive organisation to continue supporting families and children across Sydney.

    Weldon is a not-for-profit community organisation catering for children from birth to 12 years of age providing early years education and care to families most in need. Services include:

    • before school care, after school care, care on
    • pupil free days during school term; and
    • vacation care during school holidays.

    The KLR team worked with Weldons late last year in a tender process to successfully secure their place as Outside Ordinary School Hours (OOSH) provider at 3 schools across Sydney, ensuring consistency in care for children who have developed strong bonds with their carers.

    “Recently the team successfully assisted Weldon in being re-appointed as OOSH providers in multiple locations by supporting us through an EOI process. They take the time to really understand what the desired outcomes are and what is needed to provide a winning submission,” Deborah Moran – CEO Weldon Children’s Services.

    In addition, KLR worked with Weldons to secure development grants for 5 of their OOSH programs. The Development Grant Program aims to encourage and support projects, initiatives and programs that are designed to increase the viability of an approved service. Through securing important funding, Weldons is now able to further develop their programs, develop the expertise of their educators and obtain exciting new equipment and supplies that promote physical activity and development for children.

      KLR Communications wishes to congratulate our client Advance Diversity Services in its successful bid to deliver the Care Finder program in NSW.

      Advance Diversity will receive funding to focus on the establishment of the program for CALD communities in South Eastern Sydney, including the areas of Hurstville, Kogarah, Rockdale, Sutherland and Cronulla.

      The establishment of a network of care finders aims to provide specialist and intensive assistance to help people within the care finder target population to better understand and access aged care and connect with other relevant supports in the community.

      The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety found that the aged care system needs more localised and face-to-face support to help people to navigate and access aged care services and other relevant supports, particularly for those at risk of falling through the cracks.

      Advance Diversity will help to develop and enhance aged care by providing assertive outreach and engagement to those who:

      • are isolated or have no support person (e.g. carer, family or representative) who they are comfortable to act on their behalf and/or who is willing and able to support them to access aged care services via My Aged Care
      • experience communication barriers, including limited literacy skills
      • have difficulty processing information to make decisions
      • feel resistance to engage with aged care for any reason and their safety is at immediate risk or they may end up in a crisis situation within (approximately) the next year
      • are homeless or at risk of homelessness and have no family or close friends who live nearby to help them find and choose services
      • have a cognitive impairment and no family.

      Advance Diversity were referred to us by an existing client serviced by our tender team. This was a new program Advance Diversity was keen to deliver in their regions of operation and, despite the tight turnaround and competing deadlines, we were keen to assist. We are delighted to hear that our client has successfully secured approximately $1 million in funding and look forward to hearing more about the outcomes of the project implementation”, said Kathryn Garth, Managing Director, KLR Communications.

      KLR Communications wishes to congratulate our client Settlement Services International (SSI) in its successful bid to deliver the Home Care Workforce Support Program in NSW and ACT.

      SSI is one of six organisations chosen and will share in more than $91 million of funding which has been allocated to organisations in each state and territory.

      The Home Care Workforce Program aims to grow the nation’s home care workforce by 13,000 over the next two years.

      SSI will help to develop and enhance aged care by:

      • promoting training and support opportunities for new recruits and others who wish to upskill
      • supporting new recruits to navigate and access training opportunities
      • providing virtual mentoring and career guidance support to students undertaking training
      • linking trained personal carers to job vacancies in the home and community care sector
      • providing advice and training to the aged care industry on recruitment strategies and how to maintain a diverse workforce

      This was an exciting tender project to work on with the team at SSI and this win enables this great organisation to expand its services into a new and critically important area.       KLR Communications’ client, ITEC Group, has been successfully appointed to the panel of Family Group Conferencing facilitation service providers, working in conjunction with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) to deliver culturally appropriate conferencing services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in NSW.

      ITEC Group will provide culturally appropriate case managers to deliver family-focused, strengths based forms of alternative dispute resolution that encourages greater family decision making and better protects vulnerable members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

      DCJ objectives include increasing the proportion of children and young people in safe and stable homes, and helping families earlier with services that address their identified needs. Collaboration takes place with government, non-government and community partners to work with children, adults, families and communities to improve lives and realise potential, with a focus on breaking, rather than managing, disadvantage.

      With an important focus on keeping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities together, the Family Group Conferencing program aims to:

      • Empower parents and families in making decisions to ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people at risk of significant harm, through the development and implementation of a Family Plan.
      • Improve outcomes for children and young people by providing them and their extended family with a stronger voice in decisions about their care.
      • Maintain children in the care of family where possible by including extended family in the FGC process.
      • Build respectful relationships and communication between DCJ and families.
